Those are all good questions, opsinin. As Seth alluded to, price changes based on sentiment tend to occur before price changes based on fundamentals. As Ben Graham once said, “In the short run, the market is a voting machine but in the long run, it is a weighing machine.”

You’ve make some excellent points, RonTurkey. It’s pretty much all or nothing with altcoins, especially for position traders who plan to “HODL” (hold on for dear life). That’s why I would have a preference for swing trading these things, buying on dips and taking profits frequently.

The conventional wisdom would be the UVXY options are always overpriced, delta for delta, compared to VXX.

When buying put spreads, I prefer to go out 3 to 6 months in duration. When selling options, 45 days is considered to be a good time frame in order to maximize theta decay.

I feel that UVXY/VXX LEAP puts can be worth buying, but I would choose to buy in-the-money and then make it a vertical debit spread by selling an out-of-the-money put with the same expiration date. This will reduce the cost basis and can cushion the blow if the trade goes against you for a while.

I can’t figure why you would trade the illiquid SVXY at all when you have one of the most liquid products in the world in VXX. Some days it’s THE most liquid.
