but, not really, right? they are reporting earnings for fourth quarter 2017, not first quarter 2018. With that being said, i simply can’t justify adding much of anything to my portfolio.. I’m in TRIM mode.. Trim here, trim there.. I’m trimming positions and going more to cash.. But I’m still LONG!

I admit to having been a skeptic when Satya Nadella was hired as

painfully brutal watching spy grind higher and uvxy grind higher.. i keep telling myself, patience. patience. patience. Fortunately – i’m not heavy on any put spreads, call spread, or naked calls in the short term.

UVXY and VXX are just doing their own thing at the moment, completely ignoring spot VIX and the current price action of the S&P 500. It’s frustrating, but not much can be done about it…

I think some people do use VWAP. Just as people use technical analysis on VIX.

But I suspect Richard is right.

I have made an introductory video on VWAP basics and there are folks who swear by the power of this indicator. I would suggest only using it along with other metrics such as contango, roll yield, etc., when trading vol products.

I am gearing up to start doing some scalping this year using Tradestation.

My starting point will be to use VWAP.

I am not a VWAP expert by any means and have been gathering resources to study. Also looking into hiring a coach to get me started right.

I agree with you, Richard. Piper Jaffray choosing 20% as the number for a correction is an arbitrary choice and the market has no particular reason to abide by this number.

I’m also ready to short volatility if a shutdown occurs and a volatility spike ensues. Textbook example of a temporary problem that will get cleared up, as opposed to an actual problem with the economy.

Binyamin, I haven’t considered the idea of buying protective UVXY calls ahead of time, during low volatility, for a future short UVXY position when volatility spikes. That’s a really interesting strategy.
