Seth Golden replied to the topic Christopher Cole of ArtemisCM – Long Vol Strategy in the forum UVXY, TVIX, VXX, XIV, SVXY, VIXY, VMAX, VMIN 6 years, 8 months ago
I think Chris has done some great work and maybe over time when compared our results will even out some, but for Artemis they lack the conviction or possibly the ability to participate short-VOL. There’s nothing prohibiting anyone, including myself from being long-VOL during those periods when spikes are present.

Chris republishes this every single year! I agree with every aspect of the economic outlook and so do most economists. But in terms of volatility what Chris fails to acknowledge is the end game. There is no such thing as persistently increasing volatility only that which reverts for a specific period of time which also, can only be sustained for a…[Read more]

@tester I don’t know about parking but committing to larger LOB positions and holding them a bit longer, I’m looking at stubbornly persistence in backwardation.
@thoe99 the core position is where it should be and we’re in backwardation which defies intraday scalps unless one desires the elevated risk. I’m finding it more advantageous to do long…[Read more]

However, the reason a retest can’t be avoided is “recoveries from sharp selloffs require reassurances,” the CFRA strategist says. In other words, investors will need proof that the bounce was for real.
The good news? That pullback will “present a second buying opportunity, rather than usher in a new bear market, since we don’t see recession…[Read more]

Not seeing good volume on these positive days unfortunately. Might be good for a starter position, but the risk is still higher than usual.

First time backwardation dipped below -20% today!-
Should be 5% or less after expiration tomorrow if we have another positive day in the markets. Would this be a good time for those on the sidelines to start to enter a short vix position?

@gvnr by the bond market is always right I suppose you mean with respect to temporary reflation?
-
Seth Golden posted an update 6 years, 8 months ago
U.S. bondy yields rising and the threat of reflation have caused great angst in global markets over the last 2 weeks and found with it a flight from equities, but we’ve yet to see that flight from equities find its way into “safe havens” such as gold. Moreover, there continues to be one key consideration not finding itself into the way of the…[Read more]

That action from up 300pts (DOW) to down 300 points looks like a near term flush that finds a temporary bottom and possibly a rally. Markets need to find a day of true stabilization, not up too much and not down too much.

Equity markets still not altogether stable, take a breather, pause, wait for more clarity. Still have budget deal to pass by Friday and a market that seems unsure of itself. Up 300 on Dow to up only 50, wild swings are characteristic of an uncertain market.
